Wollongong

12.-14.03.2018 WOLLONGONG

Nick, my next host, picked me up at the train station. We got along really well from the first minute on, he’s studying Environmental Sciences, goes everywhere by bike and is vegetarian – noice. We went back to his house to unload my stuff and I got to meet one of his 4 housemates, Zach – great guy as well, going to be an engineer. Nick showed my around a bit and after going shopping in the rain, he made delicious tofu vegetable curry with brown rice. In the evening, I was thoroughly introduced to Bob Ross by the whole household and fell asleep on the couch.

Since Nick had to go to university the next day, he told me to explore the botanical garden of Wollongong as well as Mount Kira, which I of course did. I absolutely loved both, spending a loong time in the gardens and then going up the hill. At first there was a proper trail, but from a certain point on you had to improvise – it was fantastic, even though I got attacked by a vicious caterpillar on the way down – I couldn’t get it off properly, because it was so slimy!

Later, Nick took me to the lighthouse and we simply watched the ocean (and two JetSki pros) for some time. After a beer at the brewery, we went home, had gnocchi for dinner and spent the evening with his housemates. The next day it was already time to say goodbye and I went on to Ulladulla.
